Hiroshi Doi

Hiroshi Doi was born in 1935 in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. For decades, he worked as a successful corporate executive and management consultant. In his fifties, after experiencing severe stress and health challenges, Doi began investigating mind-body healing, studying Western Reiki, Transcendental Meditation, and traditional Japanese bio-energy practices.

While Western Reiki provided practical hand placement rules, Hiroshi Doi felt a profound spiritual longing for the original Japanese roots of Mikao Usui’s teachings. He set out on a dedicated quest to find surviving members of Usui’s original 1922 society in Tokyo.

In 1993, through extraordinary dedication and spiritual purity, Hiroshi Doi achieved what no Western practitioner had accomplished: he was formally admitted as a member of the **Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai** under its 6th President, **Mrs. Kimiko Koyama**.

Inside the Gakkai, Doi gained access to original historical records, Usui’s private handbooks, and traditional techniques that had never been shared with the outside world. He discovered that Mikao Usui emphasized daily self-purification (*Hatsurei-Ho*), breathwork (*Joshin Kokyu-Ho*), and spiritual alignment over simple physical hand placements.

Recognizing that traditional Gakkai practices were rigid and secret, while Western Reiki was practical but often lacked spiritual depth, Hiroshi Doi founded **Gendai Reiki Ho** (Modern Reiki Method) in 1999.

Gendai Reiki Ho combines the best of both worlds: - **From Western Reiki:** Structured 12 anatomical hand placement sequences, clear level systems, and accessible clinical applications. - **From Traditional Japanese Reiki:** Daily *Hatsurei-Ho* breathwork, *Gokai* chanting, *Seika Tanden* (lower abdomen energy centering), and *Anshin Ritsu-Mei* (spiritual peace).

Doi made Gendai Reiki Ho completely non-dogmatic, teaching that Reiki is not a magic cure, but a harmonious lifestyle that elevates human consciousness.

Throughout the 2000s, Hiroshi Doi traveled worldwide alongside William Lee Rand, conducting international Reiki workshops in Kyoto, Madrid, Toronto, and Sydney.

He provided authentic English translations of Usui’s original 5 Gokai, corrected historical errors in Western books, and demonstrated how daily energy breathwork regulates the autonomic nervous system.
