William Lee Rand

William Lee Rand was born in Iowa in 1947. Holding degrees in psychology and business, Rand worked as a licensed hypnotherapist and bio-energy practitioner. In 1981, he received his first Reiki attunements, eventually receiving Master training from four different lineaged teachers of Hawayo Takata’s lineage.

Noticing that Western Reiki had become fragmented with conflicting manual instructions, exorbitant fees, and unverified historical claims, Rand founded the **International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT)** in 1991.

His goal was singular: to establish standardized, highly professional, affordable, and research-backed Reiki training manuals that could be seamlessly introduced into modern hospitals, university research centers, and clinical practices.

In the late 1990s, William Lee Rand led landmark historical research expeditions to Japan. Traveling to Mount Kurama, Kyoto, and Tokyo, Rand collaborated with **Hiroshi Doi** (founder of Gendai Reiki) and members of the original **Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai**.

Rand discovered the original *Usui Reiki Ryoho Hikkei* (Usui’s handbook) and translated the 1927 Memorial Inscription at Saihoji Temple. This ground-breaking historical research dispelled numerous Western myths, proving that Mikao Usui was a Japanese Buddhist scholar (not a Christian minister as previously believed in the West) and revealing Usui’s original daily meditative techniques.
